Hello Guys, I have a bit of a dilemma. I have now owned a 320d ES E46 2004 for 2.5 years, it has just started to blow white smoke from the exhaust when sat stationary when the vehicle is running. The smoke clears when I am back moving again. It is burning oil as well unsure of how much at the moment.
The N47 engine started to be used around Feb/March 2007 but the M47 engine continued to be fitted in some cars until Feb 2008. The problem with timing chain failure was solved on N47 engines fitted to cars with a build date after April/May 2010. From April/May 2010 up until April 2011 slight noise issues with timing chain persisted on the N47

Neither do me or the diagnostic/chiptuning guy know what's wrong. The really weird symptoms and doings of the problem: 1. I can always tell when the problem appears just by the engine sound in the cabin. It suddenly becomes quieter and also the engine is not 'roaring' as loud upon acceleration as when there's no problem. 2.

Project Time: 4 hours. Tab: $300. Talent. Tools: Set of sockets ( hex and Torx T25), wrenches, screwdrivers, Parts Required: Crankcase breather valve, crankcase breather hoses and pipes. Performance Gain: Car will run well. Complementary Modification: Change engine oil and air filter.

Service Plan. Check the following possible fault causes: 1. Leaks in the air mass system downstream of the compressor. 2. Leaks in the exhaust emission system upstream of the turbine (in combination with air mass plausibility faults). 3. Faulty throttle valve (in combination with faults in the throttle valve). 4. No, its 2012 and I’m driving a 320d from the BMW320 series built only a few hundred km down the road in Rosslyn, Pretoria. About a week ago I set off from Cape Town with the goal of driving the BMW 320d through every province of the country, all the way to the Kruger Gate Protea Hotel, in Mpumalanga. And from there all the way back down again

I bought it at 122k in June 2016 from Fujitsu (company car) so had full BMW service history but was being serviced every ~20k miles which I think is appalling.
Leaky injector one possibility. So like said measure the leak off. On idle max 20 ml @ 2 min /injector. When the problem occurs you can remove the boost hose going to intake manifold and spray some brake cleaner in the manifold while cranking. Engine should start if it's purely rail pressure build up problem. mojojojo.
iTrader: ( 0) 320d Engine Vibration Still Not Diagnosed. I have a BMW F30 320d Sport line in manual. It is a 2012 with just over 90k miles on the clock. For the past few months I have had some vibrations from the engine bay and have yet to diagnose the problem. I have taken it to my trusted BMW specialist (independent garage) and he cannot
What are the most common problems with a used BMW 3 Series coupe? The biggest issue of all was a timing chain problem on the 2.0-litre diesel engine. Designed to be maintenance free, it instead The reason could be BMW 3 series age, driving habits, the oil you may use, and how often you change your engine oil. 1. Degrading And Hardening Of Seals & Gaskets. Photo by Unsplash. Problem: One of the main reasons for BMW 3 series oil leaks is the degrading and hardening of seals and gaskets with time.
The Check Engine Light (CEL) in a BMW vehicle is a warning indicator designed to alert the driver to potential issues with the vehicle’s engine or emission control systems. When the Check Engine Light illuminates on the dashboard, it can indicate a wide range of issues. However, if the light is blinking or flashing, it usually means that the
1. Coolant Leaking From The Radiator. The radiator on your BMW sits in the front of your car, ahead of the engine, and just behind your bumper. Radiators have multiple passages of metal hoses that the coolant travels through to lower the fluid’s temperature. Most BMW radiators also have plastic end tanks attached on both sides.
Spread the love. First up, there’s a new 320i with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 184 PS (135 kW / 181 hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque. When connected to a six-speed manual transmission, the engine enables the sedan to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and average 5.9 L/100km. Table of Contents show.

The problem with comparing an E39 M54 with the N52/N54/N55 engines in the E90 series is that none of the E90s come with a water temperature gauge. Instead, they come with either a fuel efficiency gauge or an oil temperature gauge (all 335 models and coupes/convertibles). If your engine has been damaged by a snapped timing chain, you will require the full engine rebuild procedure, inclusive of BMW parts. Engine Code: N47D20A (2007-2009) rebuild cost will be from £2,000 + VAT. Engine Code: N47D20C (2009-2012) rebuild cost will be from £3,000 + VAT. Engine Code: M57 or N57 (2006-2012) rebuild costs vary, prices
Its the 177bhp engine, automatic, fully equiped in dark grey with full leather inside. Only driven 40,000 miles with full service history,Looks immaculate in the pictures. Totally standard apart

All E90 engines have variable valve timing, called Vanos. Although the system is reliable, two solenoids that control the valve timing can have problems caused by oil sludge. This will lead to running issues, lack of low-end torque and illuminated check engine light. Solenoids can be easily removed and cleaned.

The crank pulley failure is a known issue on the 320d engine, although I thought the E46 models were more problematic than the E90 models. The remedy is normally replacing the the front pulley assembly. I was not aware this could cause complete engine failure, and I am having trouble understanding what happened on your car.
