Every time you use a cashpoint (ATM) in Thailand you will be charged upwards of 200 Baht, about $7 US. Some now charge 220 Baht and of course, this may increase. Shop around for the best ATM. Don’t stress too much, you’re unlikely to find a cheaper one because, of course, they all increase their fees in unison.
I find Pattaya cheaper than Bangkok. Since you said you have kids you also might want to look into a couple movies when in town. Movie theaters are quite modern and the prices are cheaper for current new releases in English than in your own hometown. Central Mall, Big C Mall and The Avenue Mall have movie theaters and are on Pattaya 2nd Road.
